ABOUT ME

I have found birds fascinating since childhood, but first took up “birding” as a serious hobby as an adult. I relish being outdoors and, while I love my suburban backyard, being in various rural settings with more varied habitat and bird species helps, “fill my tank.” In more recent years, I took up trying to photograph them, in part, to help preserve my memories of such magnificent creatures. Perhaps, more importantly, photography is a creative outlet for me. I’ve enjoyed many creative hobbies over the years, and I love trying to master new skills. Combining birding with photography has been a really good fit for me. Needle felting the animals gave me a two-dimensional way to capture animals and birds.

I live in Spokane, WA and recently retired from health care administration for the Providence-St. Joseph Health System. I try to get out to the many wonderful birding locations around Spokane as I can. Turnbull Wildlife Refuge is probably my favorite. My goal with this website is to share some information and some photographs of birds and other wildlife in hopes that others will take an interest in helping to preserve habitat so that we humans may enjoy the beauty of Nature – both flora and fauna -- for centuries to come.

I try to take the following words of Jane Goodall to heart every day:
“You cannot get through a single day without having an impact on the world around you. What you do makes a difference, and you have to decide what kind of difference you want to make.” Jane Goodall
“Look deep into Nature and then you will understand everything better.” Albert Einstein
